Russian military and government employees are not allowed to accept foreign awards without Putin’s permission

Vladimir Putin signed the decree, stating that certain categories of government employees and military officers are allowed to accept foreign awards and titles only with prior permission of the President. The document was published on the Official web portal of legal information.

Regulations on the procedure for accepting foreign awards and decorations (other than sport and scientific ones) states that the permission must be obtained by any person holding a public office, which is appointed by the Russian president, and military and customs officers.

The document does not apply to members of the Government of the Russian Federation, federal judges, ambassadors extraordinary and plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation in foreign countries and Russia’s resident representatives to international organizations.

The president’s decree contains a recommendation to apply the similar regulations for the Federation Council, the State Duma, the Supreme and Constitutional Courts, the Central Election Commission, as well as government bodies of the Federal subjects.
